Powered by Telefónica, Wayra is one of the world’s farthest-reaching startup accelerators. It boasts a presence in 12 countries – Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, the Czech Republic, Spain, Germany, Mexico, Peru, the U.K. and Venezuela – and has worked with nearly 300 projects to date. Having received over 20,000 business proposals, Wayra claims to be one of the top talent detection platforms in ICT.

What Wayra Wants

Wayra is open to early-stage startups and business projects with a significant technological twist.

 The accelerator is seeking out ideas that are extra innovative and disruptive and that employ new technologies in the digital communications space. Projects with a high potential for growth and a global scale focus will be prioritized, as will those with a solid business models. Founders must be fully committed to their projects in order to bring it to market fast.

With this latest call, Wayra has put out a special set of feelers for projects in a few specific areas:

  • M2M (Machine to Machine)
  • Big Data
  • Media & Advertising

However, startups from other areas should not be discouraged from applying.

Wayra Goes Increasingly Global

Present in more than a dozen world cities, it’s no wonder that Wayra is placing increasing emphasis on its global reach.

The accelerator hosted its very first international demo day in Miami last December, and in November, it has a three-city demo event planned (set for San Francisco, São Paulo and London).

Companies applying to this third global call will be competing for spots in six Wayra academies. Up to 20 places are available in the U.K., seven in Venezuela and five in Germany. Up to two spots are up for grabs in each the Czech Republic and Peru, and one place is open in Argentina.
