A handful of Latin American startups just got one step closer to winning Desafio Intel 2013. Contest organizers revealed the identities of 71 companies that have made it to the semi-final round of this year’s competition.
Desafio Intel promotes entrepreneurship education and connects local talent with Silicon Valley, helping to develop the entrepreneurial ecosystem in Latin America. It provides participants with training, mentoring and support in hopes of fostering the next generation of tech entrepreneurs in the region.
The search for this year’s Desafio Intel companies commenced earlier this year with a call for applications. Now, the 71 semi-finalists have been announced.
The selected companies hail from throughout Latin America. Ten startups from each Argentina, Brazil, Mexico, Colombia and Chile remain in the running, as do 11 from Peru. Five Costa Rican companies are also in the semi-finals, as are five more startups from other regional locales (one from Venezuela, Ecuador and Guatemala and two from Bolivia).
The semi-finalists will be invited to local pitch events to determine who will make it the contest finals, where eight spots are open. Those companies will compete at Desafio Intel Demo Day, the top three moving on to the Intel Global Challenge at UC Berkeley later this year.
