A Flash Pitch Event: Sitting in on Two-Minute Pitches at the AVCC

edu

Between today and tomorrow at the AVCC, a handful of lucky startups and entrepreneurs will be given the opportunity to showcase their projects as part of the AVCC Venture Competition. The catch? In many cases, presenters will be given two minutes – that’s right, just two – to present, rendering the contest a bit of a flash pitch event.

This afternoon, we sat in on one of the two-minute pitch sessions to get a feel for the competition. With just 120 seconds to sell their concepts to a panel of judges and the AVCC audience, entrepreneurs representing nine companies gave it a go:

itMD, a medical image access platform that digitally connects doctors, patients and imaging facilities. (USA)

aaTag, a network for exchanging personal information, now launching its first NFC product for supermarkets and related entities. (Brazil)

AlmaBox, an online beauty community and e-commerce platform in Latin America. (Argentina)

ESENEM, LLC, a creator of technologies for the legal field. (USA)

Fotopigeon, a way to send printed photos to family and friends and connect consumers with loved ones who are far away, starting with the incarcerated population. (USA)

aPlicativa, a mobile software developer. (Costa Rica)

t-Art, a t-shirt crowdsourcing platform for designers, illustrators and artists to market and sell their designs. (Argentina)

Eduqueme, a matchmaking platform that connects talented students with sponsoring companies. (Brazil)

Cine Papaya, a platform for online and mobile sales of movie tickets for emerging markets. (Peru)

After each pitch, judges were given two minutes to ask questions and delve deeper into the details of the presenting companies. They inquired about issues such as competitors, revenues, clients, users, legal issues and more.

Tomorrow, more startups will pitch at the AVCC.
